Everyone is needed

Finland has traditionally been a fairly homogeneous society. However, as a result of internationalisation, the Finnish labour market is becoming increasingly diverse.
Finland’s ageing population and the decline in the number of working-age people are causing problems for the labour market. Workers of foreign background play a key role in overcoming these challenges. In sectors such as manufacturing, construction and health care, employees of foreign background are already a crucial part of the workforce.
Diversity at workplaces is an economic necessity and improves competitiveness. Different backgrounds and perspectives help develop work communities and lead to fresh ideas and greater efficiency and creativity.
Together, we can create a society where diversity is seen as a strength.
It is important that all employees feel part of the work community and that they are treated equally and fairly, regardless of background. We all have a responsibility to help rid the world of prejudice. The task of the Industrial Union is to ensure that all union members are treated equally and that their rights are respected.
Finland needs immigrants. Successful immigration requires investments in language training, cultural awareness and equality in the labour market. Together, we can create a society where diversity is seen as a strength and where each employee can feel that they are a valued part of the community.
